About the Department:
Alvotech Germany (Juelich) with currently 70 employees is specialized on early research and development work and is the center of excellence for early development within the Alvotech family. The cell line development team comprises of 12 employees working on early biosimilar development of a diverse portfolio for biotherapeutics including monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins and other novel biological modalities.
Overview of Role
The R&D location in Juelich builds the competence center for the early development of biosimilars within the Alvotech family. The team consists of 70 employees working on the early development of biosimilars.
You would be a part of the cell line development team, that is responsible for the development and evaluation of our production cell lines.
After an in-depth familarization and training phase, you would work within a project team to develop biosimilar cell lines with state-of-the art technologies as you have the opportunity to deepen your skills within molecular biological and cell biological technologies like fermentation of mammalian cells.
In addition to the commercial projects, the position also offers enough space for development work on our current technology as e.g. optimization of our host cell line portfolio, vector systems or molecular biological analytics, etc..
You would be a part of the cell line development team, that is responsible for the development and evaluation of our production cell lines.

- Independent design, execution, documentation, and evaluation of cell culture projects, especially in the field of cell line development
- Cultivation of suspension cell lines (different CHO strains, SP2/0 and NS0) • Participation in the development, optimization, and implementation of new cell culture processes
- Molecular biological methods (ligation, restriction, transformation, DNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, etc.)
- Preparation and supervision of cell production processes (within shaking flasks, ambr15 cultivation system)
- Participation in the development of cell-based assays
- Documentation according to Alvotechs quality system including raw data writing, creation of SOPs, report generation and implementation of qualification measures and literature research
- Presentation of results in internal meetings and workshops
- You are biotechnologist or biologist with a masters degree or diploma with ideally several years of experiences in the field of cell culture
- Hands-on experiences in cultivation of suspension cell lines (especially CHO) as well as execution of analytical methods
- Expertises in biotechnological production processes (Batch/Fed Batch) are favourable • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in use of a PC and common Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel.
