This is what you can doAs part of the Sustainability team in our Engineering, the Senior Project Leader Alternative Fuels coordinates all engineering activities necessary to ensure full compatibility of our D328eco aircraft with Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), and also prepares the use of hydrogen in future aircraft programmes:
Technical changes to the aircraft need to be evaluated and implemented in the aircraft design process, in alignment with the engine supplier. For future programmes, also hydrogen needs to be included in a holistic strategy for alternative fuels in regional aviation. In parallel to the technical evaluation and implementation, the infrastructure in the aviation system, i.e. at airports, and the supply at global scale needs to be evaluated and pushed accordingly. This implies intensive cooperation with industry committees, associations, regulators, fuel suppliers etc.
Together with the other Sustainability team members, the Senior Project Leader Alternative Fuels ensures the overall environmental and cost evaluation of our future aircraft programmes with regard to alternative fuels.
The activity relies on intensive cooperation within the company, especially with aircraft performance, propulsion, research and technology, marketing and communication, and also requires external coordination with clients, suppliers, regulators and scientific institutions.
The overarching objectives of the position are the operational lead of the SAF project and the development of a holistic strategy on alternative fuels in order to minimise the environmental footprint of our future aircraft.

Tasks:
- Lead SAF project for D328eco programme
- Develop alternative fuels strategy including hydrogen for future programmes
- Contribute to environmental and cost evaluation of alternative fuels
- Assess different aircraft architectures with regard to the use of alternative fuels
- Business intelligence: monitor competitors’ advances and initiatives with regard to alternative fuels, political developments and regulations
- Contribute to the Deutsche Aircraft Research Roadmap
- Communicate internally and externally through working groups, industry initiatives, research projects and in conferences etc.
- Initiate and lead projects with internal and external partners
You’ll bring this with you - University degree in engineering, physics, chemistry or economics and at least 10 years of professional experience, preferably including project leading
- Profound knowledge of sustainable fuels including hydrogen: chemistry, emissions (local air quality and climate change effects)
- Interest and experience in interdisciplinary way of working
- Very good leadership, presentation and communication skills
- Professional habit and delight in working with internal and external partners or organizations
- English is a must, German a plus and any other language welcome
