THE POSITION

Research Focus – Central mechanisms of next generation peptide drugs for obesity

We are looking for a talented scientist who shares our ambition for the discovery of innovative therapeutic strategies to fight obesity. We aim for in-depth investigation of neuronal mechanisms and circuitry that affect energy intake and expenditure as response to regulatory peptides.

Tasks & responsibilities  
  • In your new role you are responsible for the design, execution, and documentation of scientific experiments in line with goals and objectives of the CMDR department at Boehringer Ingelheim.
  • You set up and apply state-of-the-art technologies to perform electrophysiological recordings and functional imaging in acute rodent brain sections and cultured cells using genetically encoded and chemical sensors.
  • Your experimental studies and respective data support internal research projects and thereby contribute to the success of our drug discovery pipeline.
  • You work across departments in interdisciplinary teams within Boehringer Ingelheim, collaborate with academic experts and present your work to project teams and management members.
  • You participate in scientific discussions and publish breakthrough research in agreement with company guidelines.
  • Your role also includes training and supervising technical staff.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in (Molecular) Biology or a related discipline with several years of experience in the neuroscience area, PhD or equivalent doctoral degree desirable
  • Extensive hands-on expertise in establishing electrophysiological and functional imaging measurements in acute tissue preparations
  • Experience in the application of viral expression vectors would be a plus
  • Demonstrated track record of publications in scientific journals
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams in a drug discovery-oriented environment
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken), a basic command of German is desirable
