Job descriptionAs an internal service provider within GIZ the Data Service Center offers data services and advice to international cooperation projects worldwide. This includes support management and analysis of data for, among others, impact monitoring, project planning, geospatial analysis, and data sharing. To this end we contribute to the company’s overarching goal of building up solutions and capacities for data-based decision making among our projects and local partner institutions. In certain areas, the processing of geodata or the monitoring of project activities, centralized data services are a useful addition to the way we work. The Data Service Center is currently being set up to deliver these services. The focus of the position will be the setup of systems and structures as a foundation for the future data landscape at GIZ. In the medium-term standardized services will be provided to GIZ projects by a team of data scientists and domain experts (e.g. agriculture, biodiversity and many more).
Your tasks- Support of the development of data storage and analysis solutions
- Provision of data services to development cooperation projects, including database management and data integration
- Conception and development of the underlying infrastructure in MS Azure for data science projects and BI tools (MS PowerBI)
- Database development and management for results-based monitoring of development cooperation projects (e.g. in urban planning, agriculture, biodiversity, climate change)
- Documentation of GIZ projects’ needs and respective translation into functional requirements
- Solutions Contribution to digital transformation processes
Your profile - University-level degree (Master/Diploma) in computer science or a related field of study, or comparable qualifications through relevant work experience
- Several years of experience in data engineering, ideally with a focus on database development and management tasks in a large organization as well as
- Experience in working with cloud services, preferably MS Azure
- Extensive experience in working with relational and non-relational databases
- Familiarity with geodata and its specific needs regarding data infrastructure is desirable
- Ability to cooperate with others and work as part of a team as well as independence, resilience, and reliability
- Sound knowledge in Python, SQL, Linux; very good knowledge of Microsoft 365 programmes and PowerBI is desirable
- Fluency in German and English; knowledge of Spanish or French is desirable
