THE POSITIONAs part of the Business Development organization, the Global Alliance Management Team is responsible for managing strategic research and pre-clinical stage alliances that support the external innovation objectives of our Innovation Unit at Boehringer Ingelheim.
In your role as Director, you engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to maximize the value of strategic alliances for us and our partners, and to adequately mitigate potential risks.
Based on your expertise, you guide these alliances by aligning the vision, goals and overall objectives with the alliance partner. You oversee partnership governance, enable joint decisions and implement them smoothly and transparently.
In this highly collaborative role, you act as key contact between Boehringer Ingelheim and our external partners and play an essential role to establish and maintain a trustful relationship.

Tasks & responsibilities- In your new role you establish strong relationships with stakeholders to effectively manage strategic alliances.
- You implement governance, including steering committee meetings, according to contractual obligations and drive decision-making processes.
- It is your responsibility to monitor implementation and adherence to research and development plans mutually agreed with our partners.
- Facilitating operational effectiveness in assigned alliances and ensuring overall compliance is also part of your new tasks.
- You moderate and balance interests between our partners and Boehringer Ingelheim to jointly drive the alliances to success. That includes proactively identifying and resolving conflicts.
Requirements - Advanced scientific degree, preferably a PhD, MD or MS with equivalent experience, with knowledge in fields of Boehringer Ingelheim’s core therapeutic areas
- Extensive experience in the biotech- / pharmaceutical- / life sciences industry, ideally with expertise in Business Development & Licensing, Transactions, Alliance Management, or Research & Development
- Experience in external partnerships from e.g., acting as a project leader, alliance manager and / or contract negotiator with demonstrated leadership- & influence skills at all levels in a matrix organization
- Familiarity and understanding of patents and legal concepts in contracts as well as an understanding concerning their implications in the context of partnerships. Financial acumen represents a plus
- Strong team player and a collaborative attitude. That includes the ability to moderate between different stakeholders with different needs and interests
- Outstanding conflict solving skills paired with an authentic communication style, especially in English
