MERLIN Gesellschaft für mikrobiologische Diagnostik GmbH is an established and successful company in the field of development and manufacturing of in-vitro diagnostics for antimicrobial resistance and susceptibility testing of bacteria and yeasts. Since 2017, MERLIN is part of the Bruker Daltonics Group, which is the global market leader for its MALDI Biotyper (MBT) platform for rapid identification of microorganisms. Our MERLIN products are used in routine human and veterinary laboratories as well as in scientific and industrial laboratories. Our company is certified according to DIN EN ISO 13485.

The Application Scientist is responsible for supporting the development and deployment of Bruker’s AST/ART portfolio, comprising Bruker Merlin AST products and Bruker MALDI Biotyper ART assays.

General duties will include:

• Provide scientific, technical and operational support for Bruker Merlin distributors on a global basis
• Develop close working relationships with local Bruker Applications, Service, Sales and Regional BU teams where Bruker Merlin direct channel is established
• Collect and feedback into R&D and Marketing teams, customers, competitors and market insights
• Actively participate to the development, validation and launch of next generation MCN7 software
• Support R&D team with the development, validation and launch of front-end automation systems
• Support R&D team with the development, validation and launch of new systems and assays
• In coordination with marketing team, manage global KOLs and support the deployment of Bruker Merlin evidence plans (evaluations, publications, webinars, symposium…)
• In coordination with marketing team, execute “AST/ART training/education" plans: set up and run training materials and sessions in order to build and sustain Bruker teams’ AST readiness
• Attend & present Bruker Merlin solutions at specific events (e.g. Sepsis & Antibiotic Resistance)
• Other Internal duties related to production, QM, R&D-TBD

• Degree level in a life science subject, ideally in clinical microbiology or comparable education with several years of experience in clinical microbiology
• Demonstrated 3-5 years’ experience in previous Application Specialists roles
• Clear understanding of the clinical and veterinary microbiology market
• Strong knowledge of Sepsis and Antibiotic Susceptibility/Resistance testing applications
• Good market intelligence with respect to competitive products and vendors
• Tenacity and self-motivation inspired by success, enthusiasm, drive and initiative directed towards completion of projects
• Very well structured and organised person
• Outgoing and likeable personality with a high degree of personal integrity and a very high standard of personal presentation
• A natural team player, willing and able to build confidence and to establish co-operative relationships with personnel throughout the company
• Ability to comply with local cultural differences and to travel internationally
• German and English are a must
