The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics as an institute of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (registered association) is one of the leading centres for fusion research and is engaged in developing the physical foundations for a future fusion power plant. The institute is affiliated to the European Fusion Programme.

For the large-scale experiment ASDEX Upgrade in Garching, we are developing solutions for the acquisition, storage, and evaluation of data from about one hundred sophisticated physical diagnostics, preferably on Linux computers.

The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Garching offers within this division a position for two



computer scientists or electrical engineers (m/f/div)

with the main focus on scientific data collection systems or data management

Your tasks
  • Independent strategic conception and further development of the data acquisition framework
  • Independent further development of the software framework for data processing, storage, and evaluation
  • taking into account scientific and economic aspects
Your profile / our requirements
  • Completed PhD (Univ. / TU / TH) as an electrical engineer or computer scientist or a related field with a focus on data acquisition or data management or
  • Diploma or master's degree (FH / TU / TH) in computer science or electrical engineering or a related field and several years of professional experience in data acquisition or data management projects
  • Task-specific experience and knowledge in the areas of measurement technology, real-time applications, driver development, database systems, data mining, Linux, C++, and Python

The position is permanent. The salary is based on the assignment of tasks and qualifications and goes up to pay group 14 according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund).
