Improvement Engineer (f/m/d) Operations

Our Improvement Engineer (f/m/d) is the main driver behind the execution of the Site’s Operations Strategy. Your heart and passion are about improving our processes, which are executed by people and machines. As a change agent you work with our people in operations and support functions to transform our business processes in terms of Efficiency, Cost, Digital and Safety. Your work drives the establishment and/or improvement of lean systems, skills, and culture within Operations.

You have at least two years of experience with Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools such as 8 step problem solving (8SPS), Kaizen, 5S, standardized work, exploratory data analysis, DMAIC, etc.

Your responsibilities
  • Drives continuous improvement through ownership of metrics for Operations; facilitates Improvement projects and tracks action plans; ensures alignment to site goals for all Improvement projects
  • Leads in use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools and drives Improvement initiatives within Operations; trains and promotes lean tools and culture, as well as coaches and mentors others in Operations in the execution/deployment of Improvement projects, and/or Inclusion, and co-develops standardized work
  • Develops, supports, uses or implements digital solutions that improve performance in terms of Safety, Compliance, Delivery or Cost as part of our Digital Factory 4.0 journey
  • Sustains visual management systems (e.g., Tier boards) within Operations and works to enhance communications and share best practices across shifts and processes
  • Actively facilitates problem solving exercises and models "go see" on the shop floor; supports improvement of systems for investigations, including development of root cause analysis tools and capabilities (8SPS)
  • Promotes a compliance ownership culture (safety, environmental, and quality) and ensures Improvement activities are appropriately linked to the site strategy; will facilitate the development and management of a strategy and strategic initiative portfolio within Operations
  • Demonstrates Inclusive behaviors; works to increase employee engagement and ensure Inclusion standards are applied to Improvement efforts
  • You report to the Director of MPS (MSD Production System) and Digital
Your profile
  • B.S. or advanced degree in Engineering or related scientific fields, preferably with a minimum of 2 years of manufacturing, technical support, or continuous improvement (i.e. LSS) experience in a pharmaceutical or chemical or automotive manufacturing environment
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Yellow/Green/Black Belt qualification is an advantage
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills both in German and English, interpersonal skills, and a high level of team facilitation skills, including the ability to develop and coach team members
  • A demonstrated understanding of site and corporate strategy and the ability to convert strategic intent into realizable improvement actions are required
  • Continuous Improvement project experience highly desirable for this role, including a history of successful problem-solving experiences
  • Good knowledge of MS Office toolkit, as well as advanced Excel skills are desired
  • Knowledge of Minitab and/or Tibco Spotfire are a plus
